DAY 1 DURBAN

Discover golden sands and great surf in Durban. Those who arrive early should definitely head to the Golden Mile, a stretch of fine sand bordered on one side by clear water and on the other by cosmopolitan restaurants

DAYS 2-3 WILD COAST

One of South Africa's most pristine areas, the Wild Coast is a truly magical destination where waterfalls rush straight into the sea. Spend time trekking through ancient forests or simply savour the wonderful scenery. A visit to the Nelson Mandela Museum en route provides an insight into the legacy of this inspirational leader.

DAYS 4-5 HOGSBACK

The call of colourful parrots and louries form the soundtrack to hikes through the beautiful forests surrounding Hogsback. Gaze in astonishment at the enormous trunks of yellowwood trees and the flame-coloured foliage of tree fuchsia en route to some of the area's waterfalls. Alternately, take it easy and simply soak up the relaxed atmosphere of these scenic surrounds.

DAY 6 ADDO ELEPHANT NATIONAL PARK

Once an Elephant sanctuary, Addo Elephant National Park now shelters Lions, Elephants, Buffalo, Leopards and Rhinos. Extraordinarily, it's also home to Great White Sharks and Whales and is the exclusive domain of the fascinating flightless Dung Beetle.

DAYS 7-9 THE GARDEN ROUTE

With old-growth forests, superb sandy beaches and a range of optional adrenalin-packed activities, the Garden Route is sure to thrill. Visit Tsitsikamma National Park, picturesque Knysna and the white beaches of Plettenberg Bay.

DAY 10 OUDTSHOORN

Leave behind the coastal region and head inland to the arid landscapes of the Karoo. Get up-close to exotic Ostriches at one of the region's many farms, then see impressive stalactites and stalagmites adorning the Cango Caves.

DAY 11 STELLENBOSCH

Relax amid the rows of vines in Africa's principle wine-growing region. Take a stroll through this lively town and admire its architectural gems before spending the night in a winery. Learn the secrets to making South Africa's legendary reds and whites, perhaps taking the opportunity to indulge in a glass.

DAYS 12-13 CAPE TOWN

Travel to Cape Point to see where the mighty Atlantic and Indian oceans merge, then discover Cape Town's striking scenery and welcoming residents.
